In Judo, the 8-14 year age group represents our biggest cohort for new memberships and unfortunately our tweens (10-14yrs) and teens (15yrs+) also have a very high drop out rate.

The following information is reproduced from an article by Susan Scandiffio on https://activeforlife.com/tweens-and-teens-drop-out-sports/ and though Canadian in focus it is relevant to all Judo NSW clubs and coaches.

The article covers the 5 key reasons for this drop out from sport:

  1. Burnout
  2. Social Life
  3. Puberty Concerns
  4. Co-ed Activities
  5. Pressure

More importantly the article provides insights on what you can do to reduce the drop out and retain Judo members.
