Coaching Accreditation Framework
In March 2024, Judo Australia enhanced the Coach Accreditation Framework to CAF 2.0.

The Four Levels of Coaching Accreditation (and requirements) under the CAF 2.0 are;
– Assistant Coach – Minimum Senior Green Belt, 15yo+, New to Coaching and mentored by a Club Coach.
– Sensei Coach – Minimum Senior Blue Belt, 18yo+, At least 1-3 years coaching experience running sessions at a club.
– Senior Coach – Minimum Shodan, 22yo+, At least 4 years as an Accredited Sensei Coach.
– Advanced Coach – Minimum Ni-Dan, 24yo+, At least 3-4 Years coaching experience with an interest in a specific pathway
(Senior Coaches be offered an opportunity to specialise in a particular area/s of Judo of interest gaining an Advanced Certificate offered by Judo Australia.)
STEPS TO BECOMING A COACH – New Applicants
1. THEORY COMPONENT
New Coach applicants need to complete online learning modules as per below and submit evidence of completion to Judo NSW ONE WEEK prior to practical course.
Assistant Coach

Community Coaching- Essential Skills – First 3 Modules
- Connectivity Sport-Related Concussion Short Course (or alternate if previously completed)
Sensei Coach

Community Coaching- Essential Skills – Modules 1 to 7

Connectivity Sport-Related Concussion Short Course (or alternate if previously completed)
Senior Coach
- Community Coach Master Class 1: Who You Coach
- Community Coach Master Class 2: Where You Coach
- Community Coach Master Class 3: What You Coach
- Community Coach Master Class 4: How you Connect
- Annual Update (Anti-Doping)

Heads Up Online Course – Concussion
All coaches also need to lodge with the Judo NSW Office the following evidence ONE WEEK prior to practical course;
- Copy of current Working With Children Check (WWCC).
- Copy of current First Aid Certificate
- Complete the Coaches Code of Conduct – CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD
2. PRACTICAL COMPONENT
Sensei Coach and Senior Coach applicants must register and attend a 4 Hour Practical Course.
Assistant Coach applicants are welcome to attend a practical course however it is not mandatory and practical training can be done under the direction of the Head Club Coach.
3. PAYMENT
The fee for Coaching Accreditation is $100.
This is paid at the time of registration for the Practical Course.
STEPS TO RENEW ACCREDITATION AS A COACH
1. JA encourages renewing coaches to complete “4 Refresher Courses” as suggested on the JA website under the Coaching Tab. All coaches will need to show evidence of 2025 completion of at least two of the online “Coaching Education” refresher courses below.

- Refresher: Anti-Doping Fundamentals
Senior Coach
- Refresher Tackling Poor Behavior in Sport (webinar)
- Refresher: PBTR Inclusive coaching
- Refresher: Coaches course (Anti-Doping)
- Refresher: Decision Making in Sport
- Refresher: Introduction to Classification for Para Athletes
- Refresher: Introduction to Classification for Para Athletes
All coaches also need to lodge with the Judo NSW Office the following evidence prior to being accredited;
- Copy of current Working With Children Check (WWCC).
- Copy of current First Aid Certificate
- Complete the Coaches Code of Conduct – CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD
2. PRACTICAL COMPONENT – Refresher
Sensei Coach and Senior Coach applicants must register and attend a 4 Hour Practical Course.
Renewing Assistant Coaches are encouraged to progress to Sensei Coach after 4 years.
3. PAYMENT
The fee for Coaching Accreditation is $100.
This is paid at the time of registration for the Practical Course.
