Expressions of Interest – Saitama International Judo Juniors Championship in Japan January 2026
Judo NSW invites eligible members to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to be considered for selection to represent NSW at the Saitama International Judo Juniors Championship, to be held in Saitama, Japan, from 16–18 January 2026.
This prestigious international event, hosted by the Saitama Judo Federation, will bring together young judoka from across the world as part of a legacy program of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Judo NSW Team will consist of 7 male and 7 female athletes, as well as 1 Coach and 1 Manager.
Competition Details
Dates: 16–18 January 2026
Venue: Saitama Budokan, Ageo City, Saitama Prefecture, Japan
Divisions: Men: -60kg, -66kg, -73kg, -81kg, -90kg, -100kg, +100kg Women: -48kg, -52kg, -57kg, -63kg, -70kg, -78kg, +78kg
Eligibility: Athletes born between 1 Jan 2006 and 31 Dec 2011 (aged 15–20 in 2026)
Composition: 1 Manager, 1 Coach, 7 Male Athletes, 7 Female Athletes.
Costs: 2 nights’ accommodation (16 & 17 January) and meals during this period covered by organisers.
We are pleased to advise that the black belt register (BBR) NSW are providing sponsoring for this event. The accommodation and transport for athletes will be covered by the BBR. Athletes are only required to cover the cost of their airfare.

Proposed Itinerary (subject to change)
15 January 2026 – Depart Sydney, overnight accommodation at Narita Airport (Tokyo)
16 January 2026 – Travel to Saitama; accommodation provided by organisers
17 January 2026 – Competition at Saitama Budokan; accommodation provided by organisers
18 January 2026 – Training camp and friendly matches at Saitama Budokan
19 January 2026 – Training at a Japanese High School
20 January 2026 – Training at Obusuma Judo Club
21 January 2026 – Return to Tokyo, sightseeing, depart Narita Airport evening
22 January 2026 – Arrive back in Sydney

– Ability to represent NSW with professionalism and sportsmanship.
